 Real-time Computing

Real-time Computing Tools for the REALTOR® Enterprise!

The National Association of REALTORS® is requiring that all local and state REALTOR® associations implement real-time computing systems for managing National REALTOR® Database System (NRDS) information.

Systems Engineering, Inc. believes that real-time computing makes sense for effective REALTOR® ADVOCACY and INDUSTRY

All Navica Enterprise Management Software as a Service complies with NRDS real-time computing requirements.

What is Real-time Computing?

Technically real-time computing has to do with time constraints and system response deadlines during operations for mission critical applications like NRDS and E-Commerce.

Wikipedia defines real-time computing as follows.

"In computer science,
real-time computing (RTC) is the study of hardware and software systems that are subject to a "real-time constraint"—i.e., operational deadlines from event to system response. By contrast, a non-real-time system is one for which there is no deadline, even if fast response or high performance is desired or preferred. The needs of real-time software are often addressed in the context of real-time operating systems, and synchronous programming languages, which provide frameworks on which to build real-time application software.

A real time system may be one where its application can be considered (within context) to be mission critical. The anti-lock brakes on a car are a simple example of a real-time computing system — the real-time constraint in this system is the short time in which the brakes must be released to prevent the wheel from locking. Real-time computations can be said to have failed if they are not completed before their deadline, where their deadline is relative to an event. A real-time deadline must be met, regardless of system load."

What is Real-time Computing According to NRDS?

The rules for NRDS real-time client-server computing are established and enforced by the National Association of REALTORS®. Vendors who develop NRDS real-time client systems must comply to NAR's rules although these vendors may utilize different progamming tools to deliver their client systems to market.

Since hundreds of association staff operators are accessing the NRDS Central Database server from various clients at the same time, all agree that rules are very important and need to be enforced!

A typical NRDS real-time operation is discribed as follows in layman's terms:

A licensed real estate agent submits a printed or digital membership application to the board along with a dues check, electronic check info, or credit card info to become a member of the National Association of REALTORS®.

A local REATOR® association membership specialist receives and processes the membership application using Navica Association Management Software as a Service.

After logging into the Navica Website, the membership specialist selects the licensed real estate office that the real estate agent identified as their broker on the membership application.

Next the membership specialist selects "New Agent" from the dropdown box.

Using the membership application as a source document, the membership specialist assigns a nine digit Member ID or NRDS ID and enters required NRDS data into the Navica Agent WebForm.

When all of the requied data is entered into the Navica Agent WebForm, the membership specialist clicks on the Save button.

Immediately Navica's client software communicates with NRDS server software.

If the required data is received and complies to all the rules, a response signal is returned to the Navica client software accepting the membership data.

If the required data is received and does not comply to all the rules, an error response signal is returned to the Navica client software application. The membership specialist corrects the data and resubmits the membership data.

Once the new REALTOR® has been processed, the REALTOR® can log into Navica and pay their membership dues online or the membership specialist can process the payment on their behalf! Navica payment tranactions are also real-time operations.

Simply stated NRDS real-time processing provides a means for NRDS data to be managed immediately!
